Have you ever had one of those days that just gets away from you?
Early in the morning, you have a firm plan and some goals to achieve. Then, something unexpected happens, business or personal, and you have to deal with it. Then something else happens, and something else, etc. Before you know it, the day is gone and nothing you set out to accomplish was actually accomplished.
This often feels like failure, but I try to see it in a different light. There are plenty of other days when I hit my goals and even achieve much more than expected. In fact, when I step back and look at the big picture, maybe a week or month at a time, I see progress – and that’s what really counts.
If we all keep this perspective, lighten up, and avoid beating ourselves up over days that don’t go as planned, I think we’ll realize our days all average out in the end. As long as we see progress in the big picture, we’re headed in the right direction. We will accomplish our goals.
I’ve seen evidence of this in our customers’ lives over the years. Early on, I remember one attorney who just wasn’t moving forward with his design and order. It didn’t make sense until he shared that his mother was ill, and a lot things got put on hold lately. We understood, kept everything on file for him, and he was able to order a few months later.
Other examples include lawyers who filed our information away for 1, 2, 3 or more years, knowing they wanted a nice law office sign someday. Their days did eventually come.
So, although the majority of our customers order immediately, I wanted you to know it doesn’t always happen that way, and that’s okay.
Keep moving. "Two steps forward and one step back" is still progress.
